SUCCESSFULULSYSTEMDAY AT THE CAPITOL听

Last week鈥檚 青涩直播System Day at the Capitol was a great success.听With听continuing COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, the event was held in a fully virtual format.听Faculty, staff and student stories听were shared听through social media advocacy and personal outreach to听elevate the profile of the Universities of 青涩直播听in the eyes of our state鈥檚 lawmakers.听

The content听posted听throughout the day听was seen over 154,000 times on Twitter.听That same content on Facebookproducednearly听1,750 likes, comments and shares which expanded our reach to听over听16,500 users.听听the System鈥檚 introductory post with the following message.

STUDENT BOARD MEMBER鈥橲 TERM ENDS

Today鈥檚 Board of Supervisors meeting marked the end of student Board member Olivia Bailey鈥檚 yearlong term.听During听a unique听year听marked by virtual Board meetings in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bailey spoke for the 92,000 students of the Universities of 青涩直播 and听effectivelyrelayed their perspectivesthroughout the听pandemic.

“I am thankful that I was able to represent all the students in 青涩直播 during this unique year and gain first-hand experience of how decisions are made in our state,” Bailey said.听“I am even more thankful for the members on the Board that dedicate their time to making sure students in 青涩直播 receive an exceptional education at our nine institutions,听and I am proud to be a part of a System that values students the way ours does.”

As the SGA president of University听of 青涩直播 Monroe, Bailey served diligently on the university鈥檚 presidential search committee and advocated for听a leader who embodied the qualities students desired.听She partnered with past student Board member Rachel听Lautigar to present a session at the For Our Future Conference entitled 鈥Reflections and Inspiration from a Student Perspective鈥 to reach a larger audience with the student perspective.听

A Lake Charles native, Bailey will graduate next month with a degree in Risk Management & Insurance.听Bailey will attend the June Board meeting to continue the tradition of passing the gavel to the next student member.

BOARD NAMES INTERIM PRESIDENT OF NORTHWESTERN STATE听

The Board of Supervisors for the University of 青涩直播 System voted to name Marcus Jones as the interim president of Northwestern State University. Before signing on as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the 青涩直播System in 2019, Jones dedicated nearly 30 years to Northwestern and rose through the ranks to eventually become executive vice president.

鈥淚 am honored to have been selected to serve Northwestern during this transitional period,鈥 Jones said. 鈥淚 look forward to returning to the university I have called home for so many years and working with Dr. Maggio and university leaders to continue executing Northwestern鈥檚 mission.鈥 will get approval

President Chris Maggio announced his retirement effective June 1, 2021. He has served as president since January of 2017 and has been a member of NSU鈥檚 faculty, staff and administration for 33 years. Information about a presidential search is forthcoming.

 

DIVERSITY CHAMPIONSINTRODUCED TO BOARD

The听champions of diversity for the听Universities of听青涩直播attended听today鈥檚 meeting to听be听formally听introduced听to听the Board of Supervisors.听

鈥淲e recognize the importance of therolediversitychampionsplayat each of our member institutions and want to take this public opportunity to acknowledge them and the work they do every day,鈥 Board Chair James Cartersaid. 鈥Each one of you have real power to enact qualitative change.听This acknowledgement serves as a听reaffirmation of the Board鈥檚 commitment to emphasizing qualified diversityand inclusion on our campuses by elevating their听tireless work.鈥
