Fourth Annual ULS Serves Service-Learning Conference to be held August 10, 2009

BATON ROUGE – On August 10, see why the University of ɬֱ System is “Eight Universities Strong in Service” as they host the fourth annual ULS Serves Service-Learning Conference.  Uniting to support the service-learning initiative for the over 80,000 students enrolled throughout the eight universities, this year’s conference will include a panel with ɬֱSystem campus presidents.

Over 150 faculty, staff and students from across the state are expected to attend the free conference, which will celebrate the strides made in service-learning projects throughout the year.

ɬֱSystem schools will present the great work that is completed or underway.  In addition, the conference will highlight the value of partnerships, collaborations and institutionalization of service-learning to each of its universities.

            WHERE: Claiborne Building, 1201 N. Third Street, Baton Rouge

ɬֱSystem campus presidents, Horace A. Judson, Grambling State University; Randall J. Webb, Northwestern State University; John Crain, Southeastern ɬֱ University; E. Joseph Savoie, University of ɬֱ at Lafayette will join the conference for a panel discussion on the importance of sustainability of service-learning and student success.

Keynote speakers are Stephen Black, founder of Impact Alabama and Director of the Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility at the University of Alabama, and Stephanie Quinn, recent Northwestern State University graduate recognized for her contributions in service-learning.

This is all possible thanks to the $1.2 million grant to the University of ɬֱ System from the Corporation for National and Community Service’s Learn and Serve America Division established initially to address hurricane recovery and disaster preparedness.
